Dinner Rush and Big Nights

The film Big Nights and Dinner Rush are both films about an Italian family and their restaurants. Both main characters had Italian roots. Both films had characters who had issues with the way things were going in their restaurants. In both films, there was one character who wanted to Americanize their food for success. In Big Nights, Secundo wanted to serve what was popular to the customers, but Primo wanted to preserve and teach the customers the correct way to have tradition Italian cuisine. In Dinner Rush, the owner of the restaurant, Louis wanted his restaurant to serve traditional Italian cuisine, but his son, the head chef, refused to do so, realizing that his food is bringing the restaurant success. Both films had artwork hanging on the walls in their restaurant.
Dinner Rush (2000)            In Dinner Rush, the head chef, Chef Udo wanted to have more control over the restaurant. Although he was head chef and was allowed to go upstairs and mingle with the diners, Udo wanted to own the restaurant.
Big Night - WikipediaPrimo did not need this. He was content to be the chef and just the chef, while his brother took care of everything else. In Big Nights, there restaurant, Paradise, was not as successful as the restaurant in Dinner Rush, called Gigino’s. The name Gigino’s can give a customer a peak into the culture and an idea of what they may be serving in their restaurant.  In this kitchen, there were multiple cooks along with multiple customers due to the restaurant’s success. Although being called Gigino’s, the restaurant served food that accommodated its customers. They served American food. Primo and Secundo’s restaurant is called Paradise. This leaves the customer guessing what will be served in the restaurant. Primo refused to adhere to his brother’s wishes and strictly served Italian cuisine. Primo and Secundo’s restaurant was not so successful.
I enjoyed Dinner Rush more. I have worked in a restaurant before and I could relate to the hustle and bustle in the restaurant. It triggered quite a few memories. I believe Dinner Rush had more drama and was very interesting to watch. There was romance, crime, and a little bit of action. Both films were great, but I favor Dinner Rush.
